Stone put - The stone put is one of the main Scottish heavy athletic events at modern-day Highland Games gatherings. Similar to the Olympic shot put, the stone put more frequently uses an ordinary stone or rock instead of a steel ball.

Shot Put at the 2004 Summer Olympics - The shot put events at the 2004 Summer Olympics were held on 18 August 2004 at the Ancient Olympia Stadium, this is interestingly, the probable site of the ancient shot put. As such, this is not only the first time the event has been played on site in millennia - but also the first ever female winner of the event at the site (Irina Korzhanenko).
